What we can learn from plants

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

I am a plant lover. In fact, given a chance to turn back the clock I once wanted to be an Agriculturist like my father. Although he majored in animal husbandry from the Central Philippine University, Western Visayas Region, Philippines, he knew how to grow sugarcane. His parents/my grandparents, owned a farm in Barotac Viejo, Philippines, my grandmother to be exact is the most patient plant and animal lover I know.

She had banana trees, cacao tree, jackfruit, star fruit, guava, coconut, aloe Vera plants,

vegetables and other tropical fruit trees native to the area. I have grown to love orchids of different varieties and still a beginner at this point. At least, I know how to prevent them from dying and its been of good luck I was able to bloom a few like the spotted Phalaenopsis or the moth kind.

What qualities can we learn from plants? One major is the joy of life. It’s living and survival teaches us of its use, beauty and inner peace. Orchids teaches me to be stress free. SInce its a hobby of mine, it helps me to take time in a day to water them and making sure they receive the light they deserve. Looking for certain pots in facebook market place teaches us to be creative, resourceful, economic and patience. Your patience will be tested when it comes to plants and its survival. The psychological effect it brings, its ups and downs and the time taking to grow it. Trials and strategies, teaches a person to think and take time away from the stresses of the world and appreciate the little things life can give you such as a plant. If a friend or family gives you a plant or potted flower, try to take care of it. It is the extension of your relationship with them. When you nurture such a simple plant, you nurture the effort they did just to get that plant to make your day better and bring you smiles when they brought it to you. What we can learn from plants is LiFe and appreciation of others. It’s colors, its beauty, resilience, its varieties reminds me of life and people and taking care of yourself.
